SOUTH YARRA STATION UPGRADE
South Yarra Station is Melbourne’s busiest train station outside of the Melbourne CBD. In 2017 the Victorian Government committed $2.06 million for a Planning Study into South Yarra Station. The strategy for the Study was to investigate a series of staged upgrades to the station, tram stop and surrounding precinct. The Study and subsequent investigations focused on addressing the current congestion and future transport planning issues associated with recent rapid growth in public transport usage in the area.
As Lead Consultant, Kyriacou Architects:
-
Developed a Master Plan Framework for the station and precinct;
-
Explored options to upgrade the existing Station building to relieve congestion and provide an enhanced passenger experience;
-
Explored options to upgrade the tram stop outside the station to achieve DSPAT compliance and enhanced modal connectivity.
This work supported a Business Case for Transport for Victoria to upgrade the station and tram stop. In addition the South Yarra Station Master Plan Framework document became the guiding document for future planned stages for the upgrade of South Yarra Station.
