PROTECTIVE SERVICES OFFICES

As part of the Victorian Government and Public Transport Victoria’s commitment to safety and the customer experience, Protective Services Officers were introduced at all the railway stations throughout the metropolitan network.

At a cost of $212 million, 940 Victoria Police Protective Services Officers were deployed to every train station in metropolitan Melbourne and major regional train stations to improve safety for customers.

As part of this program an intensive and carefully coordinated of capital infrastructure works was required to accommodate the PSO’s facilities for their operations. Our team at Kyriacou Architects had experience with this rollout from the very start, working with PTV, Metro Trains and Victoria Police on the very first designs and the priority stations rollouts from the beginning and have completed a significant number of the facilities. Ranging from retro fits, refurbishments to new facilities built on platforms and within the station precincts.

The challenges faced and overcame include the technicalities and construction constraints of working with the rail environment; and minimising services and customer disruptions, whilst improving customer amenity and public safety.

Drawing on our team members extensive rail and police facilities experience’, Kyriacou successfully worked through the full roll program and are in the process of completing the last remaining station at present.
