(BID PHASE)

Kyriacou Architects were part of the ACJ Alliance for the RFP Bid Phase for the Level Crossing Removals at Main Road and Furlong Road St Albans, Blackburn Road, Blackburn and Heatherdale Road, Mitcham. The project consisting of the design of four new stations and their precincts provide an integrated urban design, Architecture and landscape solution that is contextual and responds to their precincts.

The new stations are conceived not only as transport hubs but as opportunities for new useable public spaces for the community. The designs deliver functional transport requirements through:

  • integration of transport modes, including pedestrians, bicycle, trains, buses and cars;

  • being people focused and easy to navigate providing good wayfinding, legibility and connectivity;

  • safe and accessible through clear sightlines, good passive surveillance and DDA compliance.

The designs provide identifiable built form outcomes that support the current and future aspirations of their precincts through:

  • responding to their urban context, whereby beyond its transport function aim to embed a useable civic space for the community;

  • an identifiable transport hub that includes an identifiable station building and public spaces that are connected and integrate architecture and landscape;

  • enhancing the commuter experience to be one that is not static but activated with landscape and seating, and a human scale in the architecture and the materials used.
